I have just finished building a new computer for my brother and in it I installed a 500GB Seagate HD. When booting to the Windows XP Pro install screen, it only sees about 131GB. It is a SATA HD if that helps and an ASUS P5B motherboard. I just don't know why it is not showing the full 500GB. Any suggestions or comments?!?

i think you have to update to the newest service packs to have it all usable/viewable.

Format it as NTFS after installing windows XP service pack 2. After you've done this, Slipstream XP SP2 into an install disc to make it easier to install in the future. You should see something like 490GB~ once you've formatted it.

if you have access to another pc with a burner, slipstreaming is your friend.

It is only about a ~6% loss when comparing GB to GiB.

1,073,741,824 B = 2^30 B = 1 GiB
1,000,000,000 B = 1*10^9 = 1 GB

If you then divide 1GB by 1 GiB you get .931322 blah blah blah, therefore when comparing the advertised capacity of a drive, lets say, 500GB, then what you have available in GiB is 465.66128 blah blah which is what Windows will report even though it will label it as GB.

And luck has nothing to do with it, it is marketing, psychology and mathematics that dictates this matter.

I just realized a jack-ass bumped a long-dead thread to show off how he can bust a 2x4 with his penis.

Holy crap, I didn't even realize that it was that old, wow... The same OP had a newer thread and I wanted to see what he had used his 4 posts on.

What was the comment by the way? (and I can only bust a 1*4... but with some more work, i think I can take down that 2*4)

It was just a warning to activate the firewall before connecting to the internet to download SP3, so that the machine isn't fully compromised before the download even begins.
