HD gaming question

I use component cable to connect with my xbox and PS2 to my HD TV. Does the game itself have to have HD support to display correctly.I tired outrun2 yesterday I have HD enable in the xbox setting but the after tehe game loaded the picture is all mess up.

By all messed up what do you mean?

With the exception of a few - TMNT series and I-Ninja come to mind.

You may have enabled too many modes for your TV (1080i, 720p) - start with just 480p and move up.

The screen is like a montior is set to a resolution that it can't support. The image is like split into 2 and jumping.

Is there a different between 480p and 480i? This is one of the componet port spec for my TV Component Input Y/Cb/Cr x 1 (480i).
