HD from medical device will not spin in PC

This is weird.

I have a medical device that has 2 hard drives. It's no longer under warranty so I thought I'd check these drives with SpinRite since they were installed in 2005 and still run every day.

I first added them to an external USB drive but nothing came up (wanted to use HD Sentinel).

I then put them directly into an old emachines PC and still no spinning.

It's a simple Hitachi Deskstar 41.1GB rated 5V 500mA .12V 700mA

ATA/IDE

I tried 40 and 80 pin cables

Any ideas?

** edit**

I forgot, the master/slave pins are set to auto-spin disabled. never sen that before. fixed it with changing pins

The 80/40 pin cables have nothing to do with ' spinning '..

The power connector is what makes it spin up, whether the data cable is connected or not..

yeah, the pins were set to "auto spin disable" which I've never seen. changed it to normal and it is working now, thanks
