HD Fan Question

I am about to put together a new PC and have an Antec 1080AMG case. I have a 120G Western Digital and a 80G Maxtor drive. Should I put them both in the same HD cage (lower cage)? I have an extra fan that I would mount in the cage.

Or would it be better to have one in each HD cage. If I go that route, only the HD in the lower cage will have a fan.

I am leaning toward both in the lower cage with the fan, but if it make more sense to split them, I will go that route.

TIA

both in lower cage with fan makes sense to me

either way i dont think they would get hot enough to die anyways...unless your case temp is high and/or you live in a hot place?

presumably a 80x10mm fan has superior airflow and low noise operation compared to a.... 70x9mm one? ;)

Are you sure? I'm putting my 2 7200rpm WD 80GB drives in the 5.25" bays with an 80mm fan in front. They are currently together in the internal drive cage, and they get pretty hot, probably around 130F. That seems pretty darn toasty to me. I'd get the Ultimate Hard Drive cooler for them too, but I can't find any place that sells it without the fans; and it's just a bit too expensive, especially as I'd want 2. The 80mm intake should be just fine though.
