HD failed...what should I buy? || update: I think I'm going Seagate

So yeah...My box had a 40GB & a 160GB...the 160 just failed. It is most likely out of warranty, but I can't check b/c Maxtor's website says the "application form is currently unavailable" (wtf). I was kinda planning on getting a new drive to replace the 40 anyway, but now I might need two, lol.

Anyway, my question is:
1) Should I get 1 or 2 new 160GB drives? (Hitachi, 3yrs warranty, $40 in Hot Deals)
2) Is it worth waiting and/or spending extra $$ for Seagate's 5yr warranty?

What should I do? If I get 2 drives, should I get a Hitachi now & wait for a good Segate deal?

Bleh!

-Eric

Edit: I'm only looking to get ~120-200GB drives, hopefullly paying ~0.25/GB, which is why the Hitachi 160GB for $40 is appealing... I'm in college so cost is a big factor.

Edit2: My mobo only supports UATA (Biostar M7NCD), but I guess SATA would be fine...I could just get a converter.

Man, no one likes Hitachi? Geez...

UPDATE Seagate drives just went on sale at CC, so I think I'm getting that...
Question though:
Is it better to have 2x160GB (7200.7) or 1x300 (7200.8)? Cost the same $ for each choice.

My motherboard is PATA(100) and doesn't support this NCQ business...

I would recommend either of those drives! Just whatever you do, don't shoot yourself in the foot and buy Maxtor again.. It'll just fail like the other one.

I love all my Seagates I use, and I've heard good things about the Hitachis'

Never ever buy a hitatchi.

What's wrong with Hitachi?

keeleysam, their phones are only open M-F, 8AM-5PM MST. I will call on monday if the online form doesn't become available. Even then I'd like to replace the other 40GB drive b/c it's like 6yrs old or something. Though iirc Maxtor had a much better reputation back then.

2 Seagates. Actually, you'll get a much better deal if you just buy one big 250-300GB drive instead of 2 little ones. Partition it up however you want. AND you'll be able to use that pussy 40 gig for a bit longer too

Hitachi hard drives suck.

Link? I see 320GB for $139...

Eeezee, I haven't seen any huge drives like that giong for 0.25/GB. If I buy at regular-ish prices, then yeah I'd agree. But sales change matters...

You should go to the Hot Deals forum, and find the 2 best priced drives that are on
sale.

Get yourself a single Seagate - my personal favorite. I gladly sacrifice <5% performance for silence, sturdiness, and a 5-year warranty.

"Serial ATA" is not a manufacturer, genius.

You didn't have a SATA drive six years ago.
