Does anyone know where to get the Hi-def DVD version of Terminator 2???
In case some of you may not have heard, Microsoft has submitted the WMV9 standard for the new HD-dvd format.

article

This is very interesting (and exciting) stuff. I am dying to see what HD-dvd looks like, even if i have to view it on my pc.

I was just wondering if this disc is available to the public.

peace-out.

I'm pretty sure you can find the high definition release of T2 at most music stores, Best Buy, etc. It's called Terminator 2 Extreme Edition (no relation to the Intel CPU). Here's a picture of the box (I'm sure you've seen it before if you've checked out DVDs in stores).

I'm almost positive T2 EE is 1080i. And you better have a 3GHz+ system to view it on because it bitch slapped mine (lil 'ol XP 1600+). 🙁

I bought mine at Wal-Mart months ago, and it does look very nice. It also includes a 'regular' DVD for play on your set top player. Takes a pretty beefy rig to run, they reccomend a P4 3GHZ and 512MB RAM IIRC(although it runs just fine on my AXP @2.1GHZ, ran fine at default clock of 1.7GHZ too for that matter).

What!!?? A movie on DVD... that has a recommended hardware requirement of a 3GHz system... That's crazy. I'm gonna have to go get the movie just to see how it runs on my 2.533.

It's actually 1080p. You can download a clip of T2 off that MS link to see if your hardware can handle it. Try that Coral Reef 1080p clip too. Sweet. Better than broadcast HD quality.
If you have an Athlon 2500+ or faster you should be OK.

Videocards 128mb 8x AGP and FastWrites on will make a difference here too.

As far as WM9 hardware cards, there aren't any yet. Supposedly there will be, but I haven't heard any news of one yet.

Holy sh!t, 1080p!!! Sweet man!!! Damn, I've gotta upgrade this PC. :|

Used a 2.4 P4C with 512mb PC3200 & a Ti4200 128mb and ran the HD clips fine. I dunno, just me or do I not a see much of a noticeable difference between the 720p & 1080p version?

Hmm.. I don't think it requires 3.0GHz CPU for playing. Tried the clip from the link above, and it worked well with my TBred 1800+@1.85G/9000 Pro (1080p one, I watched). Its resolution and quality are awesome though. Maybe HD-DVD will require more CPU, but WMV9 clip above seems not.

What res are you running the movie at? You need to run 1920x1440(for a 4:3 ratio monitor) to see the movie running 1080p.

Maybe HD-DVD will require more CPU, but WMV9 clip above seems not.

The HD-DVD runs fine on my XP @1.7GHZ, I did have a few stutters in scene transitions but other then that it was quite smooth. Upping it to 2.1GHZ and it eliminated the slight stutters. That said, my CPU utilization remains pegged, heats it up pretty good(better then F@H).

Wow, the T2 clip is great but the Coral Reef one is amazing. I wish I wasn't a poor sap who can't afford an HD television. 🙁

One thing I don't look forward to is replacing my favorite movies on DVD-HD. I've got about 175 "regular" DVD's at the moment.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH silly me, excellent point. I didn't consider changing the resolution on the old rig and left it at 1280x1024. Thx for the info.
😱

Ever heard of UDTV, i think it was called. It looked so real your eyes would have trouble differentiating it from real life. the problem was that 18min of video was 3 terabytes. Wonder how good that looks.
