I'm considering building a HTPC and wondered if at this point there's a way of outputting HD audio digitally to a receiver already decoded? Or still encoded for receivers that can decode the signal?
I'm not aware of any HDMI audio support in motherboards. S/PDIF (digital or optical) is limited to standard Dolby Digital or DTS output. Best quality is to output analog and go analog into your receiver (if you have a good receiver that supports 5.1/6.1/7/1 analog input).
So the motherboard can decode the HD audio internally and then I can output to receiver? What audio chipset do I need to look for? Any motherboard recommendations?
