I just added a poll. I set the time frame at about a year as thats when HDCP and HDMI became more prevalent.

It'll be a long time before I own a HDTV so with 956x540 should be good enough for me for a couple of years.

you never saw an upconverted DVD player output via digital (HDMI).

And I don't want to either. Watching The Matrix on DVD vs. watching The Matrix on TNTHD = no f*cking contest. I don't care what kind of holy box you're using that's magically creating some 1280x720 signal out of a 720x480 source, that CLAIMS to look as good as true 1280x720 (or 1920x1080 for that matter), I'll take the HD-DVD/BluRay.

Its not quite as good, but it is pretty close & upconverted standard DVD looks much better then at its original resolution which was the real point in making it.

And another thing, if Sony and Toshiba both think they can get away with sh!t like this, they can think again. I'll continue to happily download broadcast TV in HD in the form of TS files, and record raw TS files from my cable channels once I get my MyHD130, until this bullsh!t is hacked. And I say until because I know its only a matter of time before it happens.
F*ck DRM!

I don't see how it can, you're still making 576000 pixels out of nothing.

Also, its ironic how they call this crap Digital Rights Management, all it freakin does is take our rights away!

Rights of big companies are always above rights of individuals even if they're wrong.

Well, add me to the list of customers whose rights will not be violated, HD-DVD and BluRay can both collectively suck it until they get their acts together.

The odd thing is that this appears to be the consensus (that people hate the bickering on the Blu Ray and HD DVD sides) not just here, but at AVS Forums etc. These are the early adopters and no one complained about DVD's copy protection when it came out - because it wasn't intrusive. It's the whole jamming it down your throat thing. I also agree that yeah HD movies on TV look very good, especially newer ones - better than a decent scan converter. However, the beaufitul thing about HD movies on TV is that the cable company and studio were compensated and you still get the high quality content on any TV.

If this sets the tone, then might we see cable boxes with similar protection? Vista will already embrace anything and everything it can regarding this so why not.

Given that:

I say it is sure thing that PS3 will degrade its output for non HDCP complaint TVs.
