HD doesn't power up...any solution ?

My 2 year old Maxtor 60gig beast decided to stop powering up today...Anything I can try ?
I'd sure like to retrieve the 60gigs of mp3s stored on there !
I was thinking of maybe getting another 60gig and somehow replacing the platters in there. Any hope that might work or is it impossible and too risky ?
TIA

Not going to work unless you have access to a cleanroom and *really* know what you are doing. I watched Ontrack do it before and it's an involved process. The heads fly only a few microns above the platters - any dust, etc., that gets in there and you're toast. If it's not spinning, I've got them unstuck by whacking them on the side with a hammer or by dropping them on a carpeted floor from about 3-feet up. (seriously) That got them spinning temporarily so I backed up my data immediately. This only works if your platters are stuck - not if you have an electrical problem somewhere, of course, and not always.

I echo what Bozo1 says . . . it also might pay to change Molex power connectors . . . use a different one. Also reseat the data cable.
