I work in an environment in which we operate around 100 laptops from major manufacturers, We have a VL of Windows XP pro and lattely restoring with just DVD's has become an issue due to the number of different models present.

My project is to have a central PC with a big hard drive and have a 2.5" > IDE adapter with a removable tray and have all the images in the bid drive to just swap the laptop Drives in and image them as needed.

What is the best approach for this task, a big hard drive with multiple small partitions with each image? or can i just keep images in a single partition (like i do with my iso for example), also what software is recommended for this, i would like to be able to image the drives working under windows. In total we have around 10-15 diferent models of laptops.

Thanks for your help.

Ghost Enterprise Edition 8.0 would be great if you can find it used for $100. Altiris has a few good solutions too:

This one is another personal favorite as their products are very easy to use.

If you need something free check out HIREN'S BOOT CD 9.3 or 9.4 to get a good feel for these products. You can run the cd in a VMWare session so you don't have to reboot your personal PC which is what I do at home.

Have fun.
