HD clean w/ WinXP

Put your XP cd in the drive, start up and boot to CD, you'll have the option of formatting in the setup utility.
 
ok there's one problem there, my dad bought this Sony VAIO for christmas and it didn't come with an XP cd...? what do i do now? is it still possible to wipe my HD's?
 
Why are you erasing the HD? What hard drive brand is it? The manufacuturer might have a format utility. Like maxtor has maxblast, seagate has discwizard, and western digital has data lifeguard tools.
