Are they worth it?

How much does a cheap one go for at best buy or Frys or something? I won't have my TV hooked up to DVR probably, but i would like at least a few channels.

If you are trying to get digital OTA (over the air) reception, alot depends on how far away from your local transmitters you are. If you don't mind me asking, what is your zip code?

There's no such thing as a "hd antenna"; an antenna is an antenna, and is good for either analog or digital. A pair of rabbit ears will do. Obviously, a roof antenna is more beneficial than an indoor antenna.

You can spend 50 on an indoor antenna and get channels from 15 - 20 miles away depending on your surroundings. Is it worth it? If you just watch the major networks, it's better than paying 50 a month for cable I guess.. OTA is also the only way to get uncompressed HD.

Using a $20 Radio Shack antenna right now to get digital OTA. Its ok, but I have to move the antenna around to get certain channels. I get all my local networks, even FOX thats 35 miles away.

If you go to tvfool.com and input your zip code, it looks as if you are less than 10 miles from most of your major transmitters. Most of them are in the same, general direction except for your MyNetworkTV station, which is almost 180 degrees opposite from the others. I would first try out a simple, rabbit ear setup from Walmart or some other store that you can return if you are not satisfied with its performance. Try out an unamplified antenna first, because you are so close that you could overamplify your signals. Overdriving digital signals can be just as bad as not getting enough signal.

Yep. You can even build your own with coathangers and plywood: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWQhlmJTMzw

Wow, I live in Brookyn and all the analogs are in the red according to that sight.

*EDIT*

Bah, I just did my GFs apt about 4 miles away, shes on the 14th floor (Im on the second floor in Brooklyn) and got the same results. Just gonna have to try it myself and see. :)
