HD 7970 wierd issue

I am running 12.6 drivers right now. When I am on my desktop every once in a while ill see a black speck flash on the desktop. Normally towards the upper left corner. Its very strange, I did a reformat and it still appears on occasion. I ran 3dmark 11, heaven, D3, and BF3 and no artifacts. The temps are about 72c load and not OCing the GPU. Anyone experience this bizarre issue?

Ok. I am now pretty sure its artifacting. The card is going back. grrrr

I have somewhat similar set up as you, mine started to artifact and it only got worse so I had to RMA. That temp you posted is a little hot though i'm only running things at stock (mine only gets to around 60-65C while playing BF3).

Yeah, I figured I received a bum XFX 7970. It's no surprise according to recent reviews of XFX cards.

Rvenger, that sucks. Are you going to send it back to XFX or the retailer? If you still plan on sticking with HD7900 series, grab Sapphire DX. If you play BF3 mostly, GTX670 cards are great for $400.

Had a Sapphire DX, had loud coil whine. Newegg took the XFX back. Its getting replaced with a TwinFrozr 7950. I never had an MSI with the nice custom cooler. It looks like a high quality piece.

BTW that XFX ref card has some massive PCB warpage.
