That is a pretty sad little HSF that looks like it was designed by accountants instead of engineers. Definitely wait for something like a Twin Frozr from MSI or similar cooler.

edit: interesting that it looks like a completely different PCB than the 7970.

I assume these are both reference PCB's because I don't think they silk screen "AMD" above the PCIe interface in non-reference cards.

Undersized heatsink, poor memory and vrm cooling, lower spec components. No reference design means this is what you get. AIBs trying to cut corners and give you the cheapest design that still works to spec. Its a win for them and AMD as they are able to charge more per chip than following a beefy reference design like the 6950. Even the dirt cheap 5850 has a better pcb and cooler design. What's funny is they intend to sell this POS for close to $500.

Was just going to post it. Those prices are insane, who wouldn't spring for a 7970?

Still waiting to see official benchmarking word from sites like this one, but I tend to agree.

Still, if you're willing to go with the reference cooler (or whatever those cheap ones are called - technically it's not supposed to have a reference one, right?) I suppose you can save yourself $80 or $90 bucks. 83% of the price - does it have that much performance?

I have never seen a more poorly designed $460 card in my life. I mean that's the type of cooler you put on a $90 card. I'd like to hear the arguments for this joke of a card.
