Nvidia is a d bag company, if the 7970 is slower than what Nvidia has and is still priced at $550 I'd expect a $600/$650 single gpu card from Nvidia.

When nVidia releases their cards and it's no longer competing with the GTX-580 you will likely get what you are looking for. Looks like AMD's new CEO is no longer pricing for the future releases from the competition.

If the 7950 has gtx580 or better performance on a lower power consumption level with a lower msrp then that's all it takes to excite me.

I guess i can't be to picky if i waited for the 600 series from nvidia to come or the 7950 to drop under $400 whichever happened first i will be sitting on hd3000 graphics for months and months bad enough i am gonna putting off a gpu purchase till March which is fine but that's as far as i will go as a consumer.

Signs say Kepler around the same time as Ivy Bridge, which is in March I believe.

Grab a $50 video card used, like a 260 216 or 4870.

Unless you need to max everything out and require DX11 in the few titles that have it those cards are more than enough to hold you over with these console ports.

The 7870 is going to replace the 6970 both in performance and price, with nearly the same specs it's only going to produce a small increase over the 6970 while selling @ $300ish which is exactly where the 6970 is now.

For those of us with a sane GPU budget ($300 or less), this is our biggest fear. If the 7870 = 6970 performance then everyone on this forum knows the route to take: unlocked 2GB 6950 for ~$220 or less or wait for Kepler.

If that is the case, I'd love to see just how many 7870s they sell for the expected $300 bucks (i.e. how many uninformed suckers there are). Unless you absolutely need GCN for whatever reason, Cayman is much better bang for the buck if this is true.

:awe: I took a trip to 2006 and started playing BF2 again and the hd2000 in this i3 2100 actually isn't bad for this title it plays smooth 1920x1080 on low and its borderline playable on medium so next week when i purchase a 2500k i will go up in the world with hd3000 and hold out for a month with that and just maybe i could play BF2 on medium 1920x1080

Man i sound like a smuck:awe: But it doesn't take much to make me happy while the rest of the world is enjoying BF3 i am back in 2006 killing n00bs with my hd2000 yeah baby!

You can get an unlocked 6950 for $200 shipped down in FS/FT

Its nearer to GTX580 performance. You also forgot that $460 gets you a whopping 3GB over the puny 2GB in the 6950. Don't you know VRAM is the biggest determining factor in GPU performance and braggability rights? Plus it is in the new shiny 28nm process. Think about power savings. That alone will save you back the price difference in just 10 years.

According to Gibbo in the linked OcUK thread, the 7950 is about 10-15% slower than the 7970. Not bad for $100-150 less. I'll be curious to see exactly how much of a difference the extra shaders in the XT make when more benchmarks come out.

What we need is for intel to step up their game and release an igpu good enough to play BF3 on medium. That should keep discrete gpu prices in check.

7970. Smart money though holds on till Kepler comes out. It will probably be $50 more than the 7970 but probably 30% faster too. I'd say the extra 30% would be worth the extra $50.

With a $1000 screen he can probably afford to simply sell the 7970 at a loss and upgrade to Kepler.

It's not really a "choice" for him, with the money tree in the back yard.

Sure hope the reference design is smaller or else i'm out of the running for sure i guess i could double check the 7970 reviews if anything the 7950 will be identical or smaller.

Not sure how big a card the antec 300 can hold but its bigger brother the antec 900 doesn't fit the 6990 without pulling the middle hard drive cage about a inch,then the case looks stupid.:|

History doesn't support you.

The GTX 580 was like 20% faster than a HD 6970 and priced like 150$ above it.

The 680 isn't going to be $700. Still 20% is 20%. Nvidia cards have always been better overclockers too. Wouldn't surprise me to see some 1400mhz+ Keplers out there.

I highly doubt that will be the case. Nvidia has never been shy about pricing their cards high if they perform well. If Kepler is really 30% faster (doubtful going by past releases), it will be priced >30% higher.

Besides we still have no firm timeline for Kepler. If we were seeing leaked benchmarks and rogue cards out in the wild, I would caution people to wait too but it looks like it could be awhile and I know how fast Tahiti is right now.

So you think nVidia will release a card that is 30% faster and only charge 50$ more when the previous generation they had a card that performed 20% better but priced it 30%(150$) higher then the closest competitor?

The only thing that will keep the GTX 680(?)'s price in check is 7990.
