Thankfully not one red cent has left my wallet. You do have a choice. Prices are asinine. I mean it's not like there are 20 games out right now that are pushing the envelope. The graphic card killers like metro and crysis are old games nobody no longer plays. BF3 is the only current game that is kicking gpu butt that anyone is playing. I love BF3 but no way in heck am I buying a card for $450 or $550 to play one game. Especially since my overclocked gtx 480 gives me pretty good results in BF3

You serious?

The 7950 is 6970 performance? What a load of bs if your correct and at that price holy cow....

I sure hope your wrong about that as double checking my expenses i could drop $500 into a gpu in March and now this crap...i want gtx580 or better performance at $469 on a new generation gpu:| Worst case i purchase a gtx580.

You should of bought a 580 a year ago if you're okay with that level of performance for that price. I want 7970 performance for $350. When I can get that I'm game.

I just hope they don't start with the marketing BS that if you combine it with an AMD mobo, bulldozer cpu and 79XX series you get the "xxxxx" super platform.

I don't see a problem with pricing, in fact AMD should raise the prices a bit on the 7970 bc they are out of stock everywhere.

That is how you make money.

Yeah I agree, they should charge $1000 like Intel does, I mean people are willing to pay for that, why shouldn't we turn the GPU market into the same thing?

Heck it's not like this card really changes anything, still only have DX11 oses, still only have DX9 games, still only need a single 5770 to max the majority of titles.

7970EE for $1000, whose down?

I had one back in Feb of last year but due to some bad luck and a power supply i lost it right with a i7 2600k.

If that doesn't bring your piss to a boil a idiot friend of mine ruined a 2500k/9800gtx tower later this summer by dropping a cup of water right into the case how lucky is that?:awe:

Just now gonna get another 2500k and in March a 7970 if i can pony the dough or the best performance for the $500 or so range...idiot free gaming zone this time around:|

The market dictates price points for everything. If AMD or NV can sell lollipops for $5 apiece why shouldn't they? How dare they make a profit! I'd love to have 7970 performance for $50 bucks too but it's not gonna happen anytime soon if our peers are willing to spend $550 for it.

I was hoping for more from my fellow pc gamers. I guess its the same reason why EVGA can slap a Batman sticker on a gtx 580 and charge $30 more. People will and do buy anything.

In all fairness this is probably one of the more expensive variants of the card.

To those balking at the price in disbelief, How much were GTX 260's when they came out?

Fudzilla and TPU are announcing a few different 7950's they are all about 450.00 dollars, and he refers to the testing done at Donanimhaber, 3dmark11 the core was 880mhz. http://www.fudzilla.com/home/item/25674-amd-radeon-hd-7950-detailed
As you already know, it looks like AMD gave a green light to its partners for non-reference cards since day one and there will be a lot of custom cooled and factory overclocked cards once it launched on January 31st. According to what we know, the price is still set at US $449.99.

Aftermarket cooled cards are always around 40-50$ higher than the normal ones. This isn't surprising. Asus DC2 = premium pricing. The 1.5gb 7950 will be 399$ MSRP for a reference card.

Still waiting for more representative performance and power draw numbers before i draw my conclusions on its worth.

I don't give two phucks about 3dmark 11 i wanna see some performance in games like BF3 and the big question if it will play Crysis and how well versus the competition meaning the gtx580 at that high of a msrp i know its gonna be faster then a 6970 and gtx570 or else we got another bulldozer on our hands:awe:

3dmark 11 actually mirrors real world performance fairly well, but i'm sure we'll see benchmarks in the coming days

and the bulldozer comparison is just uh...what.

Bulldozer is sorta my new term for overpriced overhyped hardware that could possibly not please people with its current price tag or performance for such said pricetag or hardware that has high expectations but a ludacris pricetag when it debuts.

$270 8150> $230 2500k...geez $350 6970>$450 7950 with possible gtx580 or better performance.

Me and the rest of the world prob expected some $350-$399 msrp hell i took a stab at it costing at most $400 just wait till the retails spike it right up to $460+ for a reference.

AMD basically put themselves into the top end price bracket, while keeping performance at $350 and less almost exactly the same.

The 7870 is going to replace the 6970 both in performance and price, with nearly the same specs it's only going to produce a small increase over the 6970 while selling @ $300ish which is exactly where the 6970 is now.

So basically this gen AMD is attempting to fill all brackets without actually increasing performance per dollar.

Who wins? AMD

Who loses? Us.

But that's not my biggest concern, my biggest concern is that AMD is opening the door for the $600+ Nvidia gpu's once again.

They're playing Nvidias game of overcharging :p

On the other hand if it outperforms the GTX 580, why would they need to price it lower

When nVidia releases their cards and it's no longer competing with the GTX-580 you will likely get what you are looking for. Looks like AMD's new CEO is no longer pricing for the future releases from the competition.
