hd 7950 can't play CoH2 in high resolution?

At high resolution I am only getting an average of 29 fps. Is that normal? Do I need to upgrade already? The card is only a little over a year old. Will the gtx 760 4gb be an improvement?

Thank you for any answers or suggestions.

I'm getting about 50fps in the performance benchmark. SLI/CF is not supported for this game. I'm assuming that it's somewhat CPU bound, which might limit how much of a boost you'll get with a GPU upgrade.

So my A8-3870K is the weak link?

It's not unlikely.

Also, are you getting 29fps, or something like 29.97 fps? If the latter, is vsync on? If it's on and you turn it off, you might see higher numbers, but you may also see tearing effects.

If you really are under 30fps, I'd say try overclocking the CPU part of that A8 a little to see if you can get to 30fps or better. Then maybe turn on vsync to lock in 30fps.

Yes it is actually 29. something. I will turn Vsync off and overclock my cpu via my MSI control center and see if I can get an fps increase.

Still, would the gtx 760 4gb version allow a hefty increase? I was just wondering as it has 4gb of vram.

By the way, I'm only playing on 1080p and I do have 8 gig of ram running at 1600.

Thank you all for the help and suggestions.

No, a better cpu would net you a bigger increase. That or OC the heck out of your current one

The HD 7950 and GTX 760 are on nearly the same level of performance, and 3GB is overkill for 1080p as-is.

An A8-3870K will bottleneck a 7950 in almost any demanding game. CoH2 is, as games go, extremely CPU heavy, so your performance suffers doubly in that game compared to other games.

Thank you everyone for their suggestions. Turning Vsync off increased did indeed increased my fps. I now have an average of 32 fps. What is weird is if I turn my sound quality to high the fps drops to 28. something. Why would sound affect fps? Nonetheless, I put sound quality back to medium as I really didn't notice anything different between medium and high.

Sound processing uses CPU time. The drop in FPS just goes to show how extremely CPU limited you are.

The reason you don't notice a difference in sound quality probably has to do with the fact that you're using relatively low quality integrated sound. With a higher quality chip or a dedicated card and a good set of headphones, maybe you'd notice a difference. This is just speculation, I don't know the details of how the different settings differ from each other in this game.

Time to pick up a i5-4670k ;)

760 is a downgrade from the 7950, if you're overclocking.
