Anyone run into an issue with Vista Media Center locking up with ATI video cards and a Gigabyte mobo? I did Google it and I found some others with the same issue, but no solutions. The computer also freezes when I run the Windows Experience Index when it is assessing Media Center performance, so it is something with Vista MC and ATI drivers.

Everything freezes and I either have to do a hard shutdown or just turn the power off.
Everything else seems to run just fine except when I fire up Media Center. It will start up and then it freezes.

Funny thing is that if I swap out the HD4830 and use an old Nvidia 8500GT then everything runs just fine. Windows Experience completes and I can use Media Center with no problems.

I guess the easy answer is that there is some conflict with the ATI drivers and Media Center that is not present with the Nvidia drivers. The HD4830 is a much better card, so I had hoped to get it working, but I may just end up looking for a 9800GTX or GTX 260 and stick with Nvidia.

This was the first ATI card I have had in years as it seemed to be the best bang for the buck around, but looks like I?ll be back to Nvidia.

This was a new build with a HD 4830 and temp?s are fine (8500GT is an old card that I kept around). No OC of either video card. Temp?s on the HD4830 with Accelero passively cooled at idle are 35º and stay under 50º under load. MSI 8500GT are in the 40º range with the MSI stock passive cooler.

Some of the things I tried:

Downloaded and installed mobo and audio drivers from Gigabyte?s website so it has the latest and greatest drivers.

Disabled the audio in BIOS and that did not do anything other than turn the sound off.

Installed latest ATI drivers with CCC

Installed latest ATI drivers with ATT (ATI drivers with no CCC and then separate install of ATT)
? All driver installs were done by removing current drivers and appropriate control panel, rebooting into safe mode and running driver sweeper twice and rebooting and then installing new drivers

Anybody else run into this issue and what might be a solution.

Thanks, Bill
