ok, my 3870 has the 2 major problems that all early 3870's had: the fan speed runs at a very low fixed speed and the core won't oc over 860. Being the astute AT'er that I am, I located a custom bios that is rumored to be the sapphire atomic 3870 bios. Whatever, it shows up as a sapphire card in gpu-z when using that bios so I believe it. The auto fan speed issue is fixed so I don't have to use Rivatuner any more, and the core will oc over 860. This sounds swell until you realize that it was previously capped at a "true" max of 857, while even with the custom bios it's not stable over 877. In fact, with cat 8.3 it's not stable over 850, so that's actually a negative. Also, the mem freaks out with even a minor core oc, so much so that I couldn't run benchmarks earlier today with my memory at more than an 8% oc (2430)! Needless to say, this situation is not satisfactory to me and hector ruiz won't return my calls, so I was forced to go to plan b: reinstall the his 3870 original bios. fortunately I still had it lying around on my computer. My video card is now perfectly stable at 857/2562 ( I haven't tried getting the memory any higher yet so it might go over 2600). :|:|

Does anybody know of any other custom bioses that will allow the fan to work properly (ie, change speed with temperature) and allow a core OC of over 857? As cheap as video cards are I'm not overly concerned about destruction of the current card, though I would prefer to keep it awhile longer. I just prefer to keep it awhile longer at extremely high clocks like 890/2600 :)

Have you tried one of these? I am using one of the 3850 bios and it works great, but I have a VF700 Zalman so I couldnt tell you anything about fan speed control.
