i've done it before, downgraded to a new card with a bigger number. :) and i'm thinking of doing it again :) regardless of whether or not i'm gaming or dvd watching i'd like no less than a lateral move in replacing the x1650xt, but, ah, i'm
thinking newer tech, faster, cooler running. that sort of thing. ok, yea, a game a movie now and than, rarely. i think, my impression is HD 3650 is better and upward revision of the x1650xt, but is it???

maybe because the 8800gt costs twice as much?
the 3650 is a good card but in a months time the 4650 should arrive which should reduce the prices a little

I hear ya, but the price difference is what .. $50-$60? For a gigantic leap in performance, I think it's worth it. It's about the price of a decent game these days.

well i'm partial to ati and the trouble free service over the years. excepting the pos nvidia
pedestrian class card i have with the dead vga port, i've considered an evga nvidia 8 or 9000 series but, eh, i'm lukewarm about it. also i've considered the hd3850 but that brings
up the next obstacle, 1) card length, 2) power requirements. both seem to be pushing the line on my rig. those a re the key reasons for the shorter card and lower power needs of the 3650.

You will NOT get a huge increase in performance from the HD 3650 and be careful that you get the faster GDDR3 version of the HD 3650 rather than the slower GDDR2 version. A much better video card would be the AGP version of the HD 3850, Now that WILL be a huge increase in performance! :)

I've been wondering almost the same thing. I currently have an x1650 Pro and am considering an upgrade to it. The HD 3650 looks very interesting to me, but after researching it, it is mostly just a die-shrunk HD 2600 Pro. Unless someone can show a test otherwise, I am inclined to conclude that the 3650 would only be around 20-25% faster than my current video solution.

Looking forward to the release of the 4650, unfortunately it is not being released until the end of September and WAR releases middle of next month!
