Just a plug for the freeware HCFR, and the quite inexpensive (though you get what you pay for) - Spyder 2 Express Colorimeter.

Combination of those 2 products allowed me to calibrate my 42" LCD to unbelievably good levels. The Monster DVD is better than nothing, but its still just guessing. The ONLY way I'm convinced is worth it (calibrating that is) is to use a hardware colorimeter. I can only imagine that the more expensive ones are much better.

After this method was used I can actually see a tux and all the shades between a bright white shirt and jet black pants.... It's unreal!

I'm looking at getting the Eye 1 Display LT to do calibration on my Samsung LN46B650, and I guess the HCFR is the best free option. I've heard good things about the Calman software, but it is as much/more than the Eye 1 Display LT. Was HCFR pretty easy to work with (I still have to do my homework on how to use it)?

Did you have to hook it up to a PC? I've considered getting this for my dad's DLP.

Very interesting, I have the spyder 2 express and just setup a HTPC and was just thinking about attempting to calibrate my 42" panny plasma, but have not heard of HCFR. So you like HCFR better than the included software that comes with the spyder? Also how dark did you need to get your room? I know when calibrating with the spyder in the past if there was any ambient light it seemed to throw off the calibration entirely.
