Just a plug for the freeware HCFR, and the quite inexpensive (though you get what you pay for) - Spyder 2 Express Colorimeter.
Combination of those 2 products allowed me to calibrate my 42" LCD to unbelievably good levels. The Monster DVD is better than nothing, but its still just guessing. The ONLY way I'm convinced is worth it (calibrating that is) is to use a hardware colorimeter. I can only imagine that the more expensive ones are much better.
After this method was used I can actually see a tux and all the shades between a bright white shirt and jet black pants.... It's unreal!
