HBO's Chernobyl miniseries.

Anyone else watching.?One of the best shows I have seen in a long time, I would give it a high 9/10. The view of the inside of the reactor was intense and made me shiver. Its like a horror show of human stupidity.

Also follow along with the podcast, lots of stories did not make it into the show.

Hell yes. I posted about it in the "What are you watching?" thread; I also gave it a 9/10. It's very good, I'm excited for the next episodes.

I think it's only like six episodes though, if I remember correctly. That's a bummer. But I highly recommend it, especially for history nuts like myself.

Yes, it's well done.
I wish the beginning scene with the disaster unfolding showed more of the "test" went wrong and what the explosion was like from inside the plant. Sort of like the China Syndrome with a bit of background and the start of the end from within inside.

The shaft of blue light towering into the sky looked shockingly similar to the twin tower beams in NYC. 😱

Just finished the first episode and it was really good. Can't wait to watch the next one. The fact that human arrogance and the "Party is always right" mentality really disturbed me. I hate to think of the lives that could have been saved if they weren't so ingrained with that mindset.

The accident always fascinated me, along with Pripyat.

But man are they tossing on extra helping of hubris is bad angle.

well, that's the story that I had always read about the incident. All safety protocols could have been met, and the disaster could have easily been avoided--but a single supervisor on the shift refused to allow emergency shutdown to proceed because doing so meant that there was a fault in the design, which meant that mother Russia was wrong and that such an admission is the worst thing possible.

I haven't watched this series yet. Waiting for it all to come out.

My dad has be raving about this,i will probably binge the the whole thing when i have the time.
Do I have to have subscription TV and HBO add-on in particular to see this? ATM, I am antenna only in metro area.

A couple of years or so ago I read the Wikipedia account of Chernobyl disaster/fiasco.

Is this entirely a dramatization or is it pretty much a documentary? Or something in between?

Edit: I guess mostly dramatization (read Wikipedia treatment). I don't have Amazon Prime, could get a free 30 day trial. Or a 7 day trial of HBO, $14.99 after trial ends. Would Amazon Primer give me access or just the HBO package through them?

My DSL is a bit under 5mbps, so slow. Fiber is coming here soon. Could I stream this?

Dramatization. Prime alone doesn't give out new HBO shows you still have to subscribe to HBO.

You might buffer some of it but 5mbps is the lower limit imo

Upload Speed for 1080p: 3.00 - 3.50 Mbps
Upload Speed for 720p: 1.80 - 2.50 Mbps
Upload Speed for 480p: 0.90 - 1.20 Mbps
Upload Speed for 360p: 0.60 - 0.80 Mbps
Upload Speed for 240p: 0.50 Mbps

do you have Amazon Prime? it's $15/month for added HBO channel sub. Also a 1 week free trial.

It does--if you subscribe to the HBO channel. The free old HBO content they offer is just free prime stuff. But you can still subscribe to the channel and get all current content, and even watch each channel live.

So the 1 week free trial of HBO is only available to you if you have Amazon Prime? I could get the 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime and piggy back the $15/month free trial of HBO then???

Really well done series so far. I wish the dialogue was in Russian and Ukrainian though

The severely radiation burned workers are pretty scary.

No kidding. That one guy gives the guy in the bed in Seven a run for his money.

How many episodes is this supposed to be anyways?

Just get HBO now. It's their standalone streaming service with a 1 week free trial. No prime or cable subscription needed
Thanks... gonna do it, then binge watch the HBO series. It's over, right? Then I'll cancel. I haven't had subscription TV since early 90's (when the house shared, but I don't share now). I tried Sling (14 day free trial) a month ago but the streaming quality kinda sucked (sorta jerky) and the worst of it was EVERY TIME I tried to PAUSE/REWIND/FF it said it wasn't supported for <you name the channel>. Screw that!
