just typical tv trash. if you cant come up with something worthwhile, just go juvenile.
I've seen the show, and if you have conversations like this on a regular basis you're pretty screwed up.Originally posted by: daveshel
I don't have HBO so I haven't seen it but it sounds like it reflects the conversations I have and hear every day in real life. Those who are opposed to the use of profanity claim it is a sign of a weak vocabulary, but I challenge them to find another expression that has the versitility and impact of the f-bomb.

Have you even seen the show? The show is supposed to be historically accurate and there was a lot of swearing going on in deadwood at that time.
EDIT: Btw, its a town full of hookers, murderers, and scumbags, how do you think they would talk?

1. the nyt later debunked the assertion that people really said c-sucker as much as they do in that show.
but
2. "typical tv trash" is bringing anything down to the lowest level, not necessarily in diction, but in choosing subject matter. so while you might get offended at the number of f-bombs, lets not pretend like this show is as empty as Everybody Loves Raymond and Joey, Law and Order, House even The Simpsons stinks anymore. i don't know...what else is on? its all trash.
i dont really dig Deadwood, but they do more in the way of character development and plot than most other shows on television.
edit:
3. i agree that the swearing does get to the point where it means very little. but i have to hand it to the actors that they never seem bored with it.
4. this is on hbo...so...i dont want to hear any garbage about kids accidentally being exposed to foul language (besides which, if your kids go to school and hang out on a "playground" -rare these days, i know- they have heard worse, said worse and called other kids mothers worse)

ahaha, hearing "F bomb" reminded me of the episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force where Frylock killed the neighbor using some new Sonic Toilet, and they hooked his brain up to a monitor to read his thoughts. Meatwad went crazy with F-bombs, except he was saying fudge  "Man, fudge you motherfudger"
EDIT: wait, Shake killed him
EDIT2: no no it was Frylock

Topic Title: HBO series "deadwood" sets new record for "F" bomb
Topic Summary: What's the draw for profanity?
I have never watched the series but I'm curious how you would have hundreds of instances of the "F" word during a HBO series. Seems like it would be so intentional as to disrupt normal conversation.
Someone counted here.
