It takes a long time to produce a miniseries these days. They've been working on it since 2008. HBO just picked it up for a whole season earlier this year.

That said I'd wish he'd finish the whole series, I gave up and moved on to other stuff.

No shit! Hasn't he been 'writing' this since 2004?

Miniseries better be better than Legend of the Seeker.

Well, Legend of the Seeker is ABC, and Game of Thrones is HBO .... so at the very least, there will be tits.

Kidding aside, HBO has had a pretty good track record recently.

Can't wait... for this or the next book. I think Martin is going to die before that happens though.

so it's certain to see at least one season? sweet

anyone know how much they'll try to accomplish in a season?

back before crows was published he claimed to have enough material for 2 books, and so the publisher told him to split it (as it cost too much to print 1000 page volumes). so he's literally had the material and plot for dragons worked out for 6 years. he's let perfect become the enemy of good and he's probably become bored of it. nothing worse than an author bored of his own story.

Yes, HBO has locked in one season even before seeing an episode. It seems the cable networks are more willing to take a chance these days on new series- STARZ did the same with Spartacus (which I don't like).

This series has a fairly large budget (even for HBO), so hopefully we will see some decent special effects (and maybe a dragon or two)...

problem with it having a large budget is that it will get "Romed" great show, but only lasted 2 seasons because the ratings weren't enough to justify its budget.

Like happened to Robert Jordan and his Wheel of Time series.

Sadly the book written after he died is better than the last few he wrote while alive.

The incest is quite an important theme to the storyline. They could gloss over the statutory rape but I don't think they can ignore the prince/princess relationship.

This guy and Robert Jordan pretty much ruined fantasy for me. I haven't read a good book in maybe 4 years, because I just lost interest in the subject.

Regarding HBO I'm just worried that I will get hooked on the series and then it gets canceled before any major plot development.

Was there statutory rape in the Sopranos? Nope, didn't think so.

I was just thinking "rape" not "Statutory"
When his shrink got raped in the stairwell.

Still I'm betting HBO will have no problem with this.
It may not be explicit, but it will be there.

Only Robert Jordan was a terrible writer, and George R. R. Martin is one of the best.

They might leave her age unstated. How old was she in the book? Apparently the role is played by Emilia Clarke.
