Since Game Change is the name of the McCain campaign manager's book about the election, it's not really a secret what it's about. Will probably be a decent movie.

Was written by two journalists-John Helimann of the New York Magazine and Mark Halperin of Time, not McCain's campaign manager.

The book was a harbinger back to the great old series of books "The Making of The President 19xx" and is a highly reccommended read by me. It covered all three major campaigns (Hillary Clinton, Obama and McCain) in roughly equal amounts, did an excellent job of pointing out the strengths and mistakes of each, had quite a few small exposes and (I thought) handled the debacle of Palin fairly even-handedly, pointing out times where her holding back was generally misinterpreted as evidence of her stupidity.

From what I've heard the TV show is basically restricted to McCain-Palin, but it still sounds interesting. Personally I found the Clinton and Obama parts of the book more interesting, but all was good. Wish I got HBO, would love to see this.

Was very good. Great cast. Worth theatrical release.
Most of the meat of the film is supported by actual historical fact by those portrayed in the film since interviewed.
We all know several of the top campaign people did actually quit on not so pleasant terms. I always felt McCain was smart enough to know he would never beat Obama in the general, so McCain felt he had to pull a stunt. He did, but it failed. Im sure if McCain had it to do over again, he would have never picked Palin. Even Rush Limbaugh would have been a better pick as the VP, that is if McCain felt he needed to pull a stunt.
The only issue in the movie I question is with protraying Sarah as depressed about herself and her performance as the VP candidate. It would be more believable that Palin was too hung up on herself, too excited to be in the spotlight to feel she ever did wrong or she was the failure in the room.
Good film.

"While Sarah Palin has denounced the HBO docudrama "Game Change" about her rise to national stardom during the 2008 presidential campaign as a "false narrative," one of Palin's top advisers said today that the film was actually "true enough to make me squirm."

Nicolle Wallace, a Republican strategist and senior adviser to the McCain-Palin 2008 campaign, was one of Palin's main handlers during that whirlwind presidential campaign four years ago."

So what is Nicole here jerking?

*ahem, as posted above:

Nicolle Wallace was the onetime consultant to CBS News and media aide to George W. Bush who was assigned to work with Sarah Palin after the Alaska governor was chosen as John McCain’s running mate. It was Wallace who assured the McCain campaign that her dear friend Katie Couric, a committed liberal with a history of interviewing Republicans and conservatives in a quietly nasty way, was the right journalist to conduct a major early interview with the extremely conservative vice-presidential nominee.

I heard that McCain comes off well in it, but I can't fathom why people would care so much about Sarah Palin that they'd watch a movie about her.

Don't underestimate the value of a good laugh! Comedy might not be her chosen venue but she's quite skillful in making many people guffaw with disbelief.

Oops, I forgot to bold the "true enough to make me squirm." part.

So never mind what an Republican strategist and senior adviser says, it's only important that she was friends with Katie Couric, a journalist who had the gall to ask Palin simple and straight forward questions in an interview. Got it.

Sounds like this 'aid' was an integral part of the media assault on Palin from day 1, and continues to serve in this function.

Haha yeah, she was probably part of the wide ranging conspiracy to ask Sarah Palin what newspapers she read.

Watched it and I'll try to give an opinion that isn't all circle-jerky.

First I have a very hard time believing Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace had it in for Sarah from the start or were part of a conspiracy. They are professionals who's job it was to run and advise the McCain campaign.

Some people have hinted since Nicole and Katie Couric are friends that her questioning was a setup. I don't think it's true and even if it was someone please, please explain to me how "what do you read?" is a nasty or snarky question? It has been asked of other presidential candidates in the past so why should Sarah have been exempt?

So here are my takeways good and bad. John McCain does come off good in the movie. He mentioned on more then one occasion he didn't want to personally attack Obama, recounting the rumors spread by Karl Rove in South Carolina (2000 GOP primary) that McCain had an illegitimate "black baby", when the baby was an adopted Cambodian. He looked pained when at rallies people were shouting Obama was a terrorist. Hhs support for Palin was unwavering even when things were going badly.

Palin comes off good as a charsasmatic politician. People who were into her were really enthusiastic. Her advoccy for special needs children was touching. She also comes off as a tough woman who picked herself up and maintained when things were at their lowest.

Most of the bad stuff I knew or suspected already. I will not call her dumb but she was very ignorant of national and world affairs. So much so it would have been dangerous to have that in a VP. No sitting governor in the US in 2008 should have stated Saddam Hussein attacked us on 9/11. This would have been a disqualifier for being a mayor in any town. I give Steve Schmidt 60% of the blame for Palin. I'm not in politics but I could have done the vetting and discovered she's not qualified. The other 40% goes to Palin for her lack of self awareness. I would hazard a guess 99% of ATP&N know if they are qualified to be POTUS (assuming VPs should be). If you are asked to be VP and know you're not cut out for the job just respectfully decline. I'm not sure she knew she was incapable of doing the job.

Good commentary. The other situation I never realized when they meet with McCain's next door neighbor who is a dr. He tells them she is doing remarkably well for someone with a baby with downs syndrome, a pregnant teenage daughter, a son in Afghanistan and running as a VP in a presidential campaign. There was definitely some embellishment, I mean it is HBO we're talking about. It would be like having a movie about President Obama written and directed by Sean Hannity.

There is one. Hannity plays Obama hugging some (who cares) professor in Obama's college years. Then devises "the horror of it all" circle jerk.
Heck... I can't remember who i might of hugged last week let along 30+ years ago in college.

I really don't fault Sarah Palin for being Sarah Palin. Most people are opportunist at heart. If you seen your 15 minutes of fame coming, you too would probably do everything to cash in.
Nearly everyone that witnesses a tornado and is lucky to get on the evening news, ends up writing a book about the experience.

My beef is and always will be with John McCain.
HE ALONE brought Sarah Palin into our living rooms... The bastard !!!!

Good review Homer. I've snagged a standing invite from a relative who gets HBO to come over and see it. Should be an interesting night-he still has a Palin sticker on his pickup.
