First got it for free (XP pro FULL) for filling out a survey for MS in 2001....

cost: $5 hipping

Then I jsut got a new sp2 edition disc from them

cost: $30

paying $35 for a legit copy of xp pro :

You realize that you could have legally taken your original disk and made a SP2 disk from it, right?

You can make unlimited copies of Microsoft OS media so long as your usage stays within the license agreement. Slipstreaming is not piracy.

i paid $0 for it for being a student of a school with MSDNAA in 2003...

i also paid $0 for SP2 because it was included on a separate disc.

pwned.

wink wink 🙂

You can not pay for software without pirating at all. There are plenty of free software out there that work just fine. And you can still get away with not paying for the OS through some MS deal or MSDNAA.

In case anyone actually cares: those of you that purchased school/student copies of software should be aware that you are only legally permitted to use it while you are a student. Read the license. 😉
