Pretty cool article. Analogous models are a great way to do things up to a point, and the fact that they can get SQUIDs to act like a black hole is really neat. Just posting it here for ATHT's digestion.

Squids are now capable of generating black holes? Oh mY GOD! When will man learn not to dabble in the work of God? Now our oceans are teaming with ticking time bombs of our final destruction. Well, I'm off to do my part, to the sushi restaurant!

Models of models of models... Sounds familiar. :p It's almost always easier to develop a "phantom" model than to test what you would really like to test. The key is to make sure the phantom has the same mechanics as the real system, at least in my field. I'm not familiar enough with superconductors or black holes to understand how they're similar in this case, but it sounds like fun.
