Hawk on the fence?

So a few weeks ago I woke up and looked out the window to see this massive bird sitting on the fence in my backyard.

I assumed it was a hawk, but then when I showed my mom she asked if I was sure it wasn't a falcon. I actually have no idea... but I figured you guys might want to see. 🙂

If not, well then... look at my cats instead?

Ghost

Edit: When I saw the bird, it had a smaller bird gripped in its claws and began ripping feathers from it. There were bloody feathers strewn about the top of the fence when he flew away. Gross.

Aren't falcons a broad classification? i.e. all hawks are falcons; not all falcons are hawks.

EDIT: oops, other way around. Falcon is a genus classification, hawk is an order classification.

To be more specific, it is a Peregrine Falcon.

The fastest animal on the world if I'm not mistaken. That'll eat your cats.

Yeah well I saw a groundhog today while walking to class, twice. We stared at each other.

That's not a massive bird. I had a Great Horned Owl in my yard, that was a massive bird.
