Having XP load problems on new seti computer.

Hey guys, hoping someone has had this problem and can help me out.

I am trying to load XP into a new system. It is a K7S5A with a 1700+, GF3 200 Ti, 256 DDR memory. When I try to load the OS, I get "file not coppied correctly" errors, and then it may blue screen on me later. It comes up with "<filename> failed to start because of ????"
I have tried a different cd-rom with no avail.

I tried Win 2k and the system hung right on "saving settings" and did not re-start. any ideas?

This is one of my new seti computers, and hope someone has come across this

I've gotten that error with every single computer I've tried to load XP on. I have not had problems loading other OS's on those computers though so I doubt it has to do with hardware.

Try to give the ram more voltage. I had a similar issue and was solved with upping the voltage to the ram. There may be a jumper for that on your mobo, check the manual.

I shall order some more memory, and see if that solves the problem. thanks guys! 🙂

I trust Russ because he is "NCNE" 🙂

Also keep in mind that the K7S5A can be very finicky with power supplies, thus causing problems with other components.

Unfortunately, my K7S5A does not have over-volt settings for anything, let alone ram 🙁 for $50 I am not going to complain tho 🙂

sduguid is correct... Power supply(PS) is a major concern with the K7S5A mobo... If you have a bigger one, try it before you buy new ram. Find a buddy who has a 400W and test it... 9 out of 10 times the PS is the problem with the K7S5A's...

[edit] btw, easiest way to test is to have only the mobo, hd, ram, and video card installed. If OS isn't installed yet, add the cd-rom to the list. The fewer components the better... will let you know if your PS is ok, and if it is ok with a minimum of accessories but not with a full case, you prolly need a new PS.
