I am running Windows XP Professional w/ SP1 and I'm having trouble with the Sapphire Radeon 9500 Pro drivers. The CD that came with it doesnt work. I install the drivers, then it says "windows will now reboot, when it comes back on, we will run some stability tests which could take up to one minute". Well, when it boots back up, the comp freezes, so I hit reset, then it boots up and windows says it recoevered from a serious error, and I need to use the "System Restore" feature. Can someone please help me figure out how to install these drivers?

Did you uninstall any and all drivers related to your previous graphics card first? You may be having a conflict that's preventing the new drivers from installing (especially if you are coming from an Nvidia product).

Boot to safe mode, uninstall all old drivers, select standard VGA, and reboot (you should also consider updating your AGP drivers for your motherboard chipset at this point). You need to make sure you get rid of everything you can related to the old drivers (check start-up groups, etc.). Cancel windows attempt to install drivers for the Radeon upon boot-up, and install the drivers from the CD and reboot. Then install the Ati control panel and reboot.

If that doesn't solve your problem, you may need to do a clean install of Windows to get rid of whatever remnants may be left behind.

You can try Driver Cleaner 1.3 from here to remove old drivers, also you can download & use latest ATi Radeon drivers from ATI`s website.

There are no other drivers, it's a brand new system, brand new format. The only thing I could think of would be that my F drive (second hard drive) has it, but that wouldnt interfere, would it? I will use the drive cleaner utility and try again, but I dont think it will help.

I had to reformat my hard drive the first time. Didn't know about driver cleaner. I was getting the same stuff would get a bunch of errors then run chkdsk when I restarted.

Well, I got it working. Sorta.... I dont know how it started working all of a sudden, after about 5 hours of trying tons of things. But the bad thing is, I see artifacts in RTCW Demo. The artifacts look like little black swiggly lines, they are pretty noticable. It looks like those old time projector movies (you know the ones that start off by counting down from 10 to 1). Well, you know how they always had the black cracks in the screen. It looks like that :(

I know it's not normal, cuz it wasnt like that before. It actually looks sorta cool though, but its not right. Why could this be hapenning? Im running a Radeon 9500 Pro. I havent OC'ed it I don't think (I dont even know how to change the mhz and stuff)........ did I get a bad video card, or what?
