having troubles installing windows

im trying to install windows xp but everytime during the copying process, i get an error message:

the file <filename> was not copied correctly
the file setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid windows xp system image. if you are installing from a cd, there may be a problem with the windows 2000cd.

to retry, press enter
etc.

the disc is legit and it works on other system. it is not just one file that gets the error.
