Having trouble with my new Rig

I just built my first rig and here are the specs:

X2 3800
EPoX 9NPA+ Ultra
Seagate 300GB 7800.8
Patriot 2GB (1GB x 2)
7800GT
Fortron 500W
NEC DVD burner
Antec P180

I already had the hard drive from the previous machine with Windows installed. I hooked everything up and I boot on to my hard drive... as soon as the Windows logo disappears I get a blue screen 🙁 It says if this is your first time seeing this restart computer blah blah..... Well after several attemps I still get the blue screen. I can boot in safe mode so I know the hard drive is not corrupt. What is the problem here? Do I need to install something before booting? I am at a loss here, hope someone can help.

It's a "really good suggestion". However, when you get a BSOD, it becomes necessary. Try a "repair" install first. This option will only appear if the windows CD you have is the same service pack as what you have installed; i.e. if your computer has WindowsXP SP2 loaded on it, but your Windows CD is WinXP SP1 or old school windows XP, I don't think it will give you the option of a repair. Read this

If you are able to do a repair install, and it goes as planned, install the chipset drivers once you get into Windows.

i tried the same thing, got bsod, boot in safe mode, copy all your data to external, then format and do everything correctly.

fresh install will fix the problem.

when switching an already installed hard drive from one computer to another one (esp. if it is a different motherboard) you have about a 50/50 chance of getting it to work. it looks like you came out on the bad end of the 50/50 and now it is nessesary to re-install.

you have a 99% chance it will work after you reinstall so don't sweat it.
