having trouble with an external L2 cache chip

I just bought a 512K pipelined burst cache chip to put in an old S7 system. After I put the chip in, the computer turns on but it just hangs on the startup screen. It doesn't detect any drives, and won't go into the BIOS. Does anyone have any ideas, or am I just SOL? BTW, the motherboard is an intel TE430VX.
