Having trouble setting up my microphone

Just set up my new computer today and I'm having a mic issue.

I used to use an ipod headset as my gaming headset by using a cord that has a male speaker input and a male microphone input that merges into 1 female headset jack. Now when I try to use my ipod headset all that comes out is a terrible feedback noise. If I unplug the ipod headset and plug in my other gaming set into the same jack it works without issue.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the iPod headset is an impedance mismatch. Use what works.

please anyone. Any help is very much appreciated. Why would this work without issue but all of a sudden not working on my new pc?

I uninstalled my audio driver yesterday and it fixed the problem and my voice was coming through perfectly. Fast forward to this morning and I turn my computer back on and the problem returned.

Interesting. Try the same fix again, i.e., uninstall the offending audio driver. If it works again, that would suggest that during the reboot, something is reinstalling it.

Is there possibly a new driver you can download?

Sounds like you need to configure Windows Update to not check for or install Driver Updates.
That is a feature, that while Microsoft thought it was a good idea, is really not so good. In most cases, if everything is working as it should with the Drivers you have, leave it be. No need to update them just because there is an update.

Bruceb makes a good point. If something works, leave it be. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.
