Having trouble reading pictures from a Motorola RAZR V3X with Ubuntu

I've had Ubuntu 8.10 installed for a few days now, and now I'm trying to use moto4lin to upload pictures from my Motorola RAZR V3X. So I installed moto4lin from this link:

http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-...tu-704-trough-usb.html

My problem is the phone won't connect, and it looks like I have a problem with moto4lin, possibly since I installed it from instructions for 7.04.

The program does not look like it is operating properly, mainly because it has a lot of blanks, like for all the menus. And when I hit the Preferences button, a screen flashes first and then gets covered up, and there are also blanks on the Preferences page that results. Is there any way to verify that the program installed correctly?

Thanks.

Have you tried BitPim? It's been a while but I think it was able to get limited access to my old Motorola phone with it.
