Having trouble networking my two computers, please help

I just bought a 5 port Linksys switch tonight and I am having a hard time networking my two computers with it. Both computers have NICs and they are both hooked up to the switch. My ADSL is hooked up to the uplink and I can access the Internet through it fine. I can't get my computers to show up in each other's network neighborhoods though. Please help, thanks.

DeepBlue,

What operating systems are you running?

Have you enabled file and print sharing on both?
What network are you using? Windows Logon? Client for Microsoft Networks?
What protocols do you have installed?

What IP addresses and mask are you using?

Are you sure that both computers are on the same domain or workgroup names?

And how are you accessing the internet through the uplink port? Are you doing this from both computers? or jsut one?

Do your computers have different computer id's?

I thought you had to be running a ICS software before you can share the ADSL line. That's interesting. I had a friend that used a hub to connect multiple computers to the internet but would crash often. I believe this is from an IP conflict. But I'm not 100% sure.

I have both my comptuers connected to the internet running ICS. Only bad side is that one computer has to be always on in order for it to work. But other than that, no problems whatsoever. Takes about 5 minutes to setup.

he might be getting away with just having hooked up the adsl to the uplink because both computers may not be accessing the net at the same time, but I could be wrong.

Thanks for replying guys. I just formatted my other computer's hard drive and am in the process of installing Windows 98 SE. Both computers will be using Windows 98 SE. After I have set everything up on the other system I will try again and post what happened.
