I successfuly performed the name change on this drive. But I cant seem to change the firmware to 1.07. I tried the hacked version and the plextor version, both of them dont do anything. I end up doing a ctrl alt del and ending the task on the program. what gives?

is your ASPI layer up to date?
make sure DMA is not enabled for the drive before flashing!
good luck

whats the ASPI layer? How can I check if i do have the latest version?
This drive is currently connected to an ultra 66 promise card. I tried installing the firmware with and without enabling dma.

KenDogg,
Go here and you will see two links, one for the ASPI checker, and one for the installer. If you don't know what ASPI is, you probably haven't installed it. Windows comes with an outdated version. If you have Adaptec EZCD creator installed, you won't have any problem running the update. If you don't have it installed, and don't have an Adaptec SCSI card, you will need to do a little more. The ASPI layer is needed even if you are not running a SCSI burner. Here is how I install it on an IDE system without EZCD coaster creator, just load some drivers for any Adaptec SCSI card off your windows CD, run the ASPI installer, then uninstall the drivers. Others may recommend using a program called ForceASPI, but I find this the easiest.

hey buck... I do have ezcd creator installed but no scsi card. My iomega is connected to a promise ultra 66 card. Here is the screen shot of the aspi checker i downloaded and ran ASPI. You stated that there was another program to install the ASPI? can you please direct me to the exact link because I saw a lot of different links, wasnt sure on what I should dl. But i came across this

Filename: aspi32.exe

Caution:
Do NOT install ASPI32.EXE with Windows 2000, Windows ME, Easy CD Creator 4.x, or with Windows Media Player 7.0. If you have one of these applications (or OS), you will be using a different aspi layer that will conflict with the one provided in this file.

Thats what I am running win me. so what should i do?

I don't use EZCD creator, so I am not sure. I would check with someone who uses it and see if they have installed the update for ASPI. You may also want to check here for any information on EZCD creator and conflicts. I saw something about using 4.02d or later with WinME, I am not sure if that might have an up to date ASPI layer in it or not. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Some of the newer iomega are rebaged sanyos. This would explain why the flash won't work. NOt necessarily your problem but might expalin soemthing ;)

i am almost positive that it is a rebadged plextor because the sanyos have 2 LED's while the iomega (plex) has one LED.

The rename worked.. my computer now sees it as a Plextor 12x10x but I just cant seem to get the FIRMWARE to work. I am having no problems burning in EZCD but I want the new capabilities the 1.07 provides!!

what is the firmware version you have now on your drive? And is there a sticker on the drive anywhere that says anything about the TLA #? I have seen in the forums actually two different sanyo drives are being used, but I am not sure if there appearance is the same.

If it was a Sanyo, I think the ID change would still work as it is only looking for the name in the firmware (iomega) and that doen't matter whether its a Plextor or Sanyo. The firmware is a different story.

When i got the drive it already had 1.06

The TLA # 0306 Manufacture date is January 2001

So how can I make out this TLA #?

EDIT: Also I looked at my plextor 8x4x32x and the TLA is off by one DIGIT

TLA# 0307

KeNDoGG:

Do you have any other CD-Rom's or DVD-Rom's connected to your IDE channels? When you flash the drive make sure the ONLY drive connected, other than your HDD to your ide channels, is the drive you're flashing. I had problems with the 1.07 flash on my TDK drive as well, when I disconnected the Kenwood 72x drive that was connected, it fixed the problem for me.

If you want to try installing a different ASPI layer, try this one.

The TLA# just verifies that its a plextor, as I think this is plextors way of showing which version of the drive it is, such as firmware version, etc. And as someone mentioned in the above thread, you might want to place this on your MB's IDE channel rather than on the promise card when flashing the firmware.
