Having Trouble Connecting to Internet

My friend's computer is having issues connecting to the internet. Even on wired connections, webpages won't load. The internet settings see that the network cable is plugged in, it says the LAN connection is up and running but no webpages will open. She usually runs wireless but that isn't working either. I disabled the wireless connection when trying the wired internet and that didn't work either. Any advice?

Thanks

P.S. - This has been tried at two different locations, doesn't work either place.

EDIT - The only thing I can think of that could have caused problems is she tried to connect to a computer-to-computer wireless network at the airport and since then the internet hasn't worked. I didn't see anything in the network connections that should have made a difference and it recognizes that its connected to a working wired connections, but webpages won't load.

Is it behind a router/firewall? What is the ip address(start - run - cmd - ipconfig)?
Its possible that some settings were changed when she tried to connect to the airport network.

Yes it's behind a router/firewall.
