Having trouble connecting my ibm t4o s-video out to tv

I got a brand new ibm thinkpad t40 and I am trying to connect the s-video out to tv. I get to see only the desktop(wall paper) screen but none of the other windows that I open show up on my tv screen. I tried playing around with the display settings but could not figure out anything. Can someone please help me with this
-Thanks 😕

Initially I was able to see the mouse, but after playing around with he display settings I no longer see that. Even if I launch internet explorer or notepad, I dont see that. I dont even see the Start menu. All I see is the desktop wallpaper. Any ideas????
-Thanks

First, if you full screen a dvd what part is shown on the tv?

Secondly, when you say, played around with the settings. What did you do, exactly?

ok, let me explain..After I connected the s-video cable, I was able to see the complete desktop including the Start menu. i wanted to watch a mpeg video using the power dvd and was initally able to see the power dvd window on the tv screen until i loaded the movie into it. after loading the file, when i tried to do a full screen the video screen turned blank. as soon as i exited the full screen everything was ok, but i was not able to see the movie playing in power dvd. I went into the display settings and found two displays there 1 and 2 with 1 as primary and 2 having set as primary option disabled. There was something written drag the icon on top of the other to set the display for same size or something like that. so i draged the icon 2 on top of icon 1 and clicked apply and something went wrong and I lost the mouse control on the laptop monitor and at the same time the tv monitor stopped displaying any windows except the desktop wallpaper. I then rebooted the machine which fixed the laptop monitor issue but the tv output still remains the same. this is all i did.
-thanks

Maybe you've got it set so that there are two distinct displays, rather than have the tv mirror the laptop lcd.
I can't remember exactly how to switch it up.

The Svideo output is actually the extended desktop of you current LCD display. Imagine you have your display (in this case TV) right next to your T40. That's why you don't see the Star menu on the TV. If you move the mouse around and far enough to the right (let say your tv sits right next to T40), you would see it on TV!
ATI driver let you switch around, that menas you can have your primart (with Start menu) on the TV as they are assigned as either 1 or 2.

It takes me a long time to figure this out for my friend's ATI video card, I am sure it works the same for T40, as I just got my T40 not too long ago!
