Having Trouble At School With Wireless

We're getting our whole school all wireless so I have my laptop and a wireless card (Netgear MA401) I try to connect to the existing network (N1) and it connects with some quality from Very Good to Very Poor, depending on where I am in the school, and it connect to it but i never actually get packets back. I can see the networks in Network Stumbler and it's not wep'ed. is the connection so poor that it's not sending any packets? i can use my wireless at home no problem. btw, these are DLink wireless AP's btw, and i have a dlink at home also. is there any way to boost the signal? i can't get an external antenna on my MA401 either 🙁

It sounds like you have two issues, when the signal level is very good, you should be getting a connection. I'd deal with that problem first. As far as the poor signal strength, there is no magic solution to that issue. If I had this problem, I'd get a USB wireless adapter with antennas, they have a much better range than the PCMCIA cards.
