Question Having to ignore QVLs with the 3970X to max out the RAM?

I've been trying to build a 3970X machine with 256GB of RAM, but having very little luck finding a 256GB 3600MHz kit anywhere, let alone listed in any of the sTRX40 motherboard QVLs.

I want to make sure I don't nerf the Infinity Fabric clock, so I want to get whatever lets me run it at full speed. But I'd also want to max out the RAM, because 128GB is not enough for my usecase.

I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding the repercussions of just ordering 3600MHz 32GB chips in whatever quantities they exist and putting them in, outside the QVL. Especially if the same chip already exists in the QVL in lower quantities.

For example, the ASUS QVL for the ROG Zenith II Extreme shows a 2x32GB kit from Corsair (CMK64GX4M2D3600C18 ) at 3600MHZ. Ok great, I just buy four of those then? But its socket support clearly states only 1 or 2. So is that going to fail or be suboptimal somehow?

Anyone just in general had any luck maxing out both the RAM and the FCLK with the 3970X?

QVL is very strict on Ryzen, unless its a unlisted B-Die ram.
I would not recommend anyone getting any non listed QVL ram for a ryzen system, unless its a unlisted Samsung B-die.

Non QVL ram is a lottery.
They may or may not work.

But if you have something not working well with your system, it just adds one more thing u need to debug.
To some that maybe ok, but to others, that's just adding more expenses in debuging issues.

Ryzen is more picky in regards to ram vs an Intel.
