Does this sound like a motherboard issue or a power supply issue? Since putting the machine together a while back, I've found that to turn it on I have to hold down the power button for about 4 seconds before it powers on. It seriously is like cranking an old car that needs to prime turn over a few times before starting. Once up and running, all is well, with an occasional hiccup at boot time (not detecting the drives, or most recently not posting the RAM).
It "feels" like a power supply issue, as I'm using an older Antec TruPower 430 (20-pin) on a DFI Infinity nf4x motherboard. It has a feel of having to saturate the capacitors on the board before the voltage regulators kick in and turn everything on.
I know it's not the case switch being intermittant, as the system housed an Asus A7N8X-Deluxe before without issues.
Thoughts?
