Having Temperature problem with Antec TPII 480

Yesterday, I've noticed Smartguardian reporting 70C+ temperature on my PSU while dual priming my system for stability.
The system is stable, but the high PSU temperature worries me.
I've got a 7800GT, 2x HD, 2 DVD, 2x1Gb sticks, and Opteron 165 @ 2.66ghz on DFI nF4 SLI-D (no mods).
What could be reasons for the high temp? Is the PSU dying? Do I need a bigger PSU?:frown:

p.s. the fan on PSU still works and spins at ~980 rpm max.

How is SmartGuardian getting the temp? Does it have a temp probe that you put in the PSU? If so where in the PSU did you put it?

Also if the PSU was really at 70C the TPII's fan would have been going faster then 980.

BTW if you don't have a sensor in the TPII, there's no way for anything to report the temperature since the only thing that I know of that can be reported to the system would be the fan RPM.

Ditto.

I don't use SmartGuardian so I can't say what the temperature reading is from, think it might be PWM, not PSU? If so, you need to get some air blowing over your PWM ICs, try modding a fan over that area or attaching a bracket to mount one on, like this:

Hey, a real Antec employee? You must love the Antec thrashing threads in here.

woops! my bad.
It is indeed PWM IC temperature reading. Those things do get really hot.:Q
I'd better do something about it real quick. :disgust:
