HAVING SOME PROBLEMS WITH RADEON AIW

I just installed my new Radeon AIW, and now I'm having lots of problems playing many of my games. UT won't run period, Sacrifice will not show anything except the background sky, and EQ locks up when it tries to load. Any ideas? the TV tuner, and all of the multimedia stuff works great. I THINK i have everything set up correctly, but maybe there is something that i missed, or overlooked. Any suggestions?

Also: in case it matters, Before it broke and i got this, I was running a V5.

Did you get rid of ALL old driver references from the registry and system? Do a find for ATIGART.EXE and rename or delete it. Disable ATIPOLAB from your startup by running msconfig and add these reg settings.
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver\0000\atidxhal]
"EnableWaitUntilIdxTriList2"="1"
"TableFogEnable"="1"
"WFogEnable"="0"
"ZFogEnable"="1"
"DisableHierarchicalZ"="0"
"DisableHyperZ"="0"
"FastZClearEnabled"="1"
"Vsync"="0"
"AntiAlias"="0"
"ZFormats"="15"
"ExportCompressedTex"="1"
"DitherAlpha"="1"
"ExportWBuffer"="0"

GREAT! I'll give it a try. I know how to get rid of the item in my startup, but how excatly do I edit my system registry?

sorry if i sound like an idiot. I REALLY appreciate the help =)

Thanks again.

Hmm. . I'm really kind of new at this, so I'm sorry if I'm a little slow. I'm having some trouble figuring out exactly how to edit the registry in the way that you posted. In fact, I'm not even sure where to begin. Thank you very much for your patience Taz. =)

As for the registry changes that were suggested:

goto start menu
click run
type regedit
then follow the folder map he's given you until you are adding keys in atixhal folder.

However choose export registry file and save that file so you have a backup and can restore your registry if these settings don't work.

This is fairly serious stuff and can hose your system in a hurry if you do it wrong so if your not sure be forewarned.

give some system specs and what OS ru using?

If your running 3056 drivers you could goto the 3063's and maybe you'll have better luck.

The beta's work better for games but can cause problems with DVD playback and VCR recording among other multimedia features.

When you start changing drivers it generally hoses your system, even though there are plenty of theroies on how to properly remove your current drivers before you install new ones.

Goto rage3d.com check the forums, most of the games you mentioned have already been posted and you can get good info there.

The problem I think you'll have is that getting the AIW to work is different that getting the regular radeon to work because you also have to worry about the multimedia stuff. But if all you are doing is watching TV then it might not be that much of a problem.

It will also be easier if you're using intel\win98.

3dchipset.com has all the aTI drivers available including the beta's.

Good Luck

I'm running Win 98se, and I'm using an AMD 1GHZ computer. I'll definately go check out that site. If you have any more info, please let me know.

Thanks again =)

when i went into the registry editor, the path wen /driver/0001/ instead of /driver/0000/ will this make any difference. I wanted to wait until i got your advice before i did anything that i might regret. Also, how do i export the file to save like you described?

thanks again for all your patience everyone. I'm somewhat new to the technical end of this, and I'm trying to take in a lot at once. I Really appreciate all the help.

Hope to hear more from you soon. 🙂

The easy way:

The only hitch is your key location MAY NOT be /Driver/0000. It may be 0001 or 0002. Go to start->run-> and type regedit. It will look kind of like Windows explorer. Go down the tree with the + signs to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver. Under that, you will see a 0000 or a 0001 or maybe even 0002. If it is not 0000, change the text I have below to match. If it is 0000, no changes are needed. Next, copy the below to notepad and save the file as ati.reg Right click on it and pick "merge". This will put the entries in.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver\0000\atidxhal]
"EnableWaitUntilIdxTriList2"="1"
"TableFogEnable"="1"
"WFogEnable"="0"
"ZFogEnable"="1"
"DisableHierarchicalZ"="0"
"DisableHyperZ"="0"
"FastZClearEnabled"="1"
"Vsync"="0"
"AntiAlias"="0"
"ZFormats"="15"
"ExportCompressedTex"="1"
"DitherAlpha"="1"
"ExportWBuffer"="0"

Even easier then! Copy the below into notepad. Save as oldfart.reg Right click, pick merge. Done!

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver\0001\atidxhal]
"EnableWaitUntilIdxTriList2"="1"
"TableFogEnable"="1"
"WFogEnable"="0"
"ZFogEnable"="1"
"DisableHierarchicalZ"="0"
"DisableHyperZ"="0"
"FastZClearEnabled"="1"
"Vsync"="0"
"AntiAlias"="0"
"ZFormats"="15"
"ExportCompressedTex"="1"
"DitherAlpha"="1"
"ExportWBuffer"="0"

Ok, Thanks oldfart. One quick question, when i'm copying it to notepad, do i start at

"EnableWaitUntilIdxTriList2"="1"

or do i do the entire thing including:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ATI Technologies\Driver

Thanks for the speedy response and all your help.

ok, next stupid question. I'm having trouble merging. where exactly do i right click to get that option? I've tried right clicking on the /0001/ folder in the reg editor, and it didn't give me that option. I have the information saved as oldfart.reg in a notepad.

Merged perfectly. Thanks again. I'm gonna go try it out a bit, and I'll post the results a little later.

I appreciate all the help.

Actually, most of them are settings that are set via the normal D3D settings tab in the driver. They are stored in the registry. There are a few that enable HyperZ. Those are not necessary for non Radeon LE models, since it is on by default. There are a couple for compatibility. The reason people post the settings as reg file settings is its easier to list them that way as compared to describing where they are in the driver settings.

NICE!! Between you guys and Rage3d's forum, I've gotten it up and running now. A couple of quick questions though:

1. When i load the game, it gives me the option of 2 devices; direct3d HAL and Direct3d T&L HAL. whats the difference?

2. I'm REALLY noticing a decrease in the image quality from my old V5 that got broken. I mean MAJOR jaggies now. i turned on the Anti-aliasing, and set everything the way that i thought it should be. when i went looking for another video card to replace my V5, I figured that this 32DDR Radeon AIW would be VERY comparable in image quality. Is everyone else with this card experiencing the same thing, or do you think that I have something set wrong? I've tried several different resolutions, and all have the same problem.

<< Actually, most of them are settings that are set via the normal D3D settings tab in the driver >>

yeah I was noticing that. I was reading the article at Rage3d to try and figure out what those settings do

🙂
