Thunderbird 800
Abit KT7-Raid
Asus V7700 Geforce2 GTS 64
Windows XP

I fried my motherboard, so I RMA'ed it and got a new one.. still the same board (Abit KT7-Raid). So I formatted my drive, re-installed Windows XP and set everything back up. I chose to install the Nvidia Det 40 drivers. I ran Wolfenstein, it works fine. I then downloaded the Unreal 2003 demo and tried to play it, well it brought me to the menu, but everything was kind of flashing and was all over the place. So I then tried 3Dmark 2001SE and when I tried to run the test the same thing happened, I could see some of the demo playing but it was flashing on and off and things weren't were they were suppose to be.

At this point I figured it was a problem with the Det 40 drivers so I uninstalled them and put the Det 30's on.. but the exact same thing is happening. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? I can't think of anything else to try.

i think it has to do w/ the fact that gf2 chips aren't fully compatible with DX8.x (not all features supported)
i have never had the problem w/ OpenGL games
had the same problem (no matter what version of driver) w/ my gf2mx-400,gf4mk440, no problems w/ my gf3 though.. and my gf4 ti 4200
but i may be wrong. so someone please correct me if i'm wrong

does that help..

You'd think it would still work though wouldn't you? I'm sure lots of people are running GF2 cards and are able to play unreal2003 and use 3dmark2001se. The only problem is, I don't know if they ever worked before.. before I got the motherboard back I didn't try unreal2003 or 3dmark2001.. I know 3dmark2000 use to work on it fine, and I use to play the regular Unreal fine as well. Still, its a fresh install of XP.. not sure what could be wrong

FWIW, I ran 3DMark 2001 numerous times on 3 different systems with a Gainward Geforce 2 Pro 450 with 64 mb ram, a MSI Geforce 2 Pro with 32 mb of ram and a visiontek Geforce 2 GTS-V with 32 mb of ram. No problems on any of them (unless you consider low scores a problem ) WE also ran unreal 2003, and while it was slow (around 23 fps) it was sort of playable. OF course both the benchmark and UT 2003 run much better on the Geforce 3 and Geforce 3 Ti200's that we now use in place of the Geforce 2 class cards. Maybe you should uninstall and try some of the older Detonator drivers. I have had good luck with the 27.50 and am currently running the 29.42 version. If all else fails, consider trying the 21.83 version. They are supposed to be some of the most stable drivers for the GTS class.

Well I might have a ray of hope yet. I just figured out that the drivers I have been installing are Det 30.82 .. I found out that they just came out.. I just figured that any new release would be 40.xx.. so I will try going back to 29 or so.. see what happens.. Although, even if that does work, there must still be a problem.. the new det 30 drivers and the det 40 drivers should work with my card... if not, i'm going to have some upgrading problems in the future

i did a little messin' around ..
and i flashed my VGA BIOS... and the problem is GONE !!!
you might want to try it although it's a bit risky (your AGP card might not work anymore)

oh yeah one more thing i never had any problem with 3dmark2001 SE....

Well, I tried the det 29's and the same thing happened.. so I just finished re-installing Windows XP.. I put the det 29 drivers on.. and didn't update anything else.. just incase something else was causing the problem.. same problem.. I have also tried bf 1942 and the same thing is happening in that.

I am beginning to wonder if there may possibly be a problem with the BIOS.. something is definitely messed up. I use to play the BF 1942 demo before I got the mobo back just fine. Anyone else have any ideas
