Having some problems with enabling onboard sound

I've never used onboard sound, always had a card to output through my stereo. The board is an Aopen MK89-L and it's not working with me. I've setup the bios to use onboard, installed drivers, and even checked if maybe the lineout was muted in the volume settings.

Everything is working fine, Itunes is playing sound files where it once wasn't until the drivers were installed. The speakers work, they power on but no sound.

If anyone has any idea what the hell is going on I'd greatly appreciate it. Worse comes to worse I'll just buy a cheap sound card for my brother.

Thanks to anyone who could help, hopefully it's something stupid on my part.

Is there a jumper on the motherboard that is used to enable or disabled the on-board sound ???

The only jumper on the board related to the audio is for using front panel audio connections. Since the case doesn't have one it's never been switched. Anyone with a clue what's going on?

Double check to make sure you've got the speakers in the right jack. If you're trying to play an audio cd make sure the audio cable is connected between the cd drive and the input on the mb.

Speakers are hooked up properly. I haven't got the cable to connect the drive to the motherboard as that's at my house at the moment. That shouldn't matter if I was trying to play an mp3 since I put all his music on the pc.

I'll try to use my usb headphones when I make another trip to see if they work ok.

Any other ideas cause I got nothing here.

I would check in dx9's utility and see if there's a conflict with the sound drivers. Also look in device manager and make sure that the sound device is showing without a yellow exclamation mark or that any other conflicts exist. Then go to your administrator tools and look at event viewer to check the system error messages.

Double check your BIOS parameters. Sometimes there are multiple settings that have to be enabled for the on-board sound to work.

Well, just a quick update, I tried some usb headphones I have and they work properly. I'll check on the others now.

Well I went through, dxdiag says there is an error code ... it says " failure step 19 (user verification of software) hresult=0x0000000000 (error code)

There are no yellow exclamation points in device manager and no errors in event viewer.

If you don't have the front panel audio connector plugged in, make sure that there's 2 jumpers across it where the motherboard manual says they should be (otherwise you will get no sound out of the rear audio jacks).
