i am trying to install win2k server and my system will not boot from the win2k cd-rom. when i type in setup.exe from a dos prompt, it says that setup will not run from dos. how can i fix this problem? thanks.

The only thing you CAN do is install Windows 2000 [Advanced] Server from an older edition of Win32, including Windows 95 and 98.
Install that first, and then from THERE, run the Windows 2000 [A]S setup.

fluxquantum:

When you are in DOS dont type "Setup" do the following:

1. Boot up with a floppy so that you have cdrom access. (win98 floppy or whatever you want to use)
2. Change to your cdrom where the Win2k cd is.
3. Change to the following directory: i386

When in the i386 directory then type WINNT
Setup should start as normal and you should be able to install.
The setup you are using is for use when you are already in Windows.

Hope this helps! 🙂
