I volunteer network help at a education facility about once a week. Anyways, I come in today and find out that several computers on their network have problems saving/printing/opening Word documents and have random Outlook Express messages popping up at startup. Additionally they cannot (from any computer) send attachments.
The Network setup:
-The computers are all running Windows 98 except the server which has NT 4.0.
-The network consists of about 16 pc's and one file server.
-All ip addresses are set up by dhcp.
-Most computers have 64mb RAM and are Pentium II's
The Problems:
1. In Word the user cannot print/save or open a document. The exact error message Word is giving is "insufficient memory to complete this task" even with only systray and explorer in the task list.
2. Outlook express emails are popping up in the start > programs > startup folder, if deleted or moved out of the folder, another message pops back in it's place next time the computer is started. This results in Express (not our default email client) being loaded everytime the computer starts.
3. No attachments can be sent over email. Email server is provided thru ISP---I'm not sure if it might be their problem. They also seem to be having problems opening some webpages, but this is very much a secondary concern at this time.
Anyone have an idea what the problem might be? I pretty much just got here and they're having severe productivity problems.
