Having problems with linksys wireless B router.

So, I hooked this up for my friend on Saturday night. Set it all up, working fine. Sunday afternoon.....he can't access the internet at all. I tell him to just hook the modem directly into the computer until I can come take a look at it, and that works fine.

I get over there Monday night, hook the router back up, and see that the problem is that its not getting any IP, DNS, etc, settings from Comcast. Do the usual resetting/power cycling of the modem and router, nothing. Finally call linksys, and they tell me to get the mac from the computer, and use the clone mac function in the router. Set it up like that, and everything works right away.

The next day, same thing. Everything stops working, and the router is getting no info from comcast. Pulled the plug and on it and hooked the modem directly to the computer, worked fine. Anyone have any idea whats going on and how I can fix this?

Not sure. I just added a new cable model to my comcast, and my router wont get IP addresses from it either. But when I plug directly to my computer it does. I assume its because my router is fried as it got hit by a lightning generated power surge (or spike on the cable line) yesterday. Not totally sure though.

but cloning the MAC dont work for my router. Did you set the router to renew the ip addresses when its lease expires automatically?

Well, that explains why changing the mac on the router worked, though I don't see why, since I'm also on comcast and have never had a problem with using different routers.
