Having problems with HIS Radeon HD 6970 on my new build

Hey guys,

For some reason when my pc is on, this graphics card is so loud that it makes my ears pop and gives me a headache... I am running the 11.11 drivers.

I also installed the AMD system monitor.. Opened it up, and all I see is my cpu info, and data useage--the radeon 6970 isn't showing up. It is supposed to show the fan speeds for the graphics card.

My guess is to solve this problem I can lower the fan RPM.... But so far I haven't found a way to alter any settings to the gpu. I'm guessing the card isn't being recognized?

I'm using only the 6 pin plug.

In the bios I set the graphics to PCIE/PCI. My other options were iGPU; PCI/iGPU/, and PCI/PCIE.

System Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

MB: Asus P8Z68-V LE

GPU: HIS Radeon HD 6970 2gb

HDD : As of right now, everything is running on my 64GB Samsung 830 SDD. This is running my OS and all my drivers.
I haven't yet set up windows to recognize my 3TB Hitachi deskstar hdd.

CPU: Intel core i5 2500k

Ram: Corsair vengeance 8 gb

psu: Corsair tx650

Your card should need a 6pin and a 8 pin pci-e power cable attached.
Are they both attached ?

I thought I read somewhere that using both plugs caused the card to draw power from only 1 wire, but I just used both plugs and it took care of the fan problem. Apparently I mis-read ;) I re-installed the drivers and everything seems to be working now.

Only thing that happened is I can no longer use the HDMI plug from the motherboard (only the gpu hdmi output works, that's fine) but now that I'm using that out put, my 1920x1080 monitor runs at the recommended 1920x1080, however no longer fits my screen. It's too big and cuts of the edges.

Disregard that problem, the display scaling in catalyst was at 15% underscan by default. Put it to 0% and everything's perfect.

Thanks notty22!

Video cards bios doing a quick self check when the computer starts, the fan at high speed, was it never finishing this post-check. Your computer from what you posted, originally started off the cpu-igp. Leaving the discrete card in limbo.
Now it's booting and running the discrete card.

That make sense. The computer couldn't be quieter now.

But regarding the resolution problem, I got it to work briefly, but it seems to repeat itself every reboot. I've tried many different display settings in catalyst and none work-- if the screen fits the display, it is blurry. If the screen is zoomed in and cuts a good inch or two off the edges, it is crystal clear... it's a brand new hdmi monitor and I've used it on another computer and works beautifully under 1920x1080.

Window's resolution options are no help either.. Do you know what could be causing this? The monitor worked perfect up until the very first boot with both plugs in the radeon. I've also tried with/without the driver for the monitor. It is an HP 2311x, 23" led.

Thanks!

Right click on your desktop
choose screen resolution
Your actual display should be listed there.
I installed the driver for mine so it LG w2340(digital)
Your's might be some generic VGA.
You should be able to install your exact monitor inf. and have everything working fine
within windows control panel.
Without going in to AMD CCC and changing anything.

It's listed as the correct monitor, and the default resolution is 1920x1080. The resolution doesn't change when the screen changes. It remains 1080p, and the only way I've been able to restore it is to go into catalyst under My Digital Flat-Panels> Properties (Digital Flat Panel) and select 'Enable GPU Scaling' then click the box again to disable it.
